Post-apocalyptic Werewolf Alternative setting for a ("non-Kult-ished") Werewolf campaign: a post-apocalyptic fantasy jungle, 400 years after the nuclear cataclysm. Gaia recreated Herself from Her ashes (it was the meaning of the phoenix symbol in the Prophecy of the Phoenix)... But the PC are not native of this jungle: they were born around year 2000. In year 2018, they were in Brazil to fight in the Amazone War, when the nuclear apocalypse occured. They were near a bomb, and they died in a matter of minutes... They "awake" in 2400, unable to figure out what is happening, realizing that they are mere bones under two feets of earth. They *know* they are under a beautiful (faerie) jungle, with a green aquatic light, with weird giant orchids, surrounded by myriads of colourful birds, huge butterflies and big red and white mushrooms; all in a warm, wet (sticky) atmosphere... They feel themselves quiet, peaceful, rested. In a matter of days, their bones are covered with maggots which leave rotting flesh on it, and then, flee the corpses; then, bacterias flee the rotting flesh, leaving fresh dead corpses. Suddenly, their heart starts to pulse, and they emerge from the earth, in a sudden need of air. They are in the (400 years old) irradiated ruins of a city, gleaming from an eerie blue light in the warm night (from the remains of radioactivity). Now, the PC are Beasts of Gaia (i.e. creatures made that Gaia's Will, to fit a need of Gaia). Why did She recreated them? Well, because She need genetically pure "humans" (Werewolves, in fact) to sneak into the last technological cities of the "pure men" which are trying to colonize again the surface of Earth... Some "pure humans" survived the Apocalypse. They were in the orbital cities, and in the underground refuges (did you saw "12 monkeys"?). Now, radioactivity is decreasing, and they are trying to build new cities on the surface of Earth. But the gates of their fortress-cities (both on surface and underground) are strongly guarded against the primitive human tribes, mutated garous and others strange creatures which lived the last four centuries on the irradiated surface, in this jungle. In the cities of "pure" humans, they only allow the entrance of others "genetically pure" humans (after a genetic test). Now this cities are starting again the battle of the Wyrm against the re-born Gaia, and the PC are the latest weapon of Gaia against them... BTW, i use weapons and equipments from Cyberpunk 2020 for those "pure" humans and their cities... Humans, animals and trees in the jungle are often mutants: sometimes ugly (misshapen/twisted) and pathetic; sometimes strong, quick and beautiful; sometimes just weird (for example, there is some indians in the near jungle; now, they are small (about 4' tall), their skin is light-green, they move /very/ silently, and are keen hunters and trackers). There is also a strong Faerie presence in some places... The horrors of the atomic war relativized the memories from the Impergium in the humans's mind; and, this, it weakened a lot the Veil protecting Garous... Additionnaly, the soldiers of the "pure humans" in their battle suit are always under combat-drugs when patrolling the jungle. This drug turns them into incredible fighting machines, and annihilate all fear (even fear of the Garous). With their drugs and sophisicatedd weaponry, they became dangerous even for a Werewolf Ahroun... The underground technological cities are under the influence of the Vampiric society, or Hives of Black Spiral Dancers. The orbital cities are mainly under the rule of the Technomancy... And the surface cities of the "pure" humans are only inhabited by soldiers and strong-minded pioneers, all are ready to fight, if necessary. Now, those cities are cutting roads through the jungle. Khakis combat helicopters (with defoliant and napalm), as well as small planes (flying at low altitude) roam the sky, while armored vehicles crawl the roads in the junglle. In wild places, at some distances of the cities, Faerie presence is progressively spreading, as well as the new and dangerous superior life forms and predators... But everybody in this world shun the ruins of the ancient (21st century) cities, which are still lethal after some days, because of their radiations... _In some cases, Garou show up on in Genetic scans_ In some city, they are analyzed for what they are (and they would have a lot of trouble to get into an orbital city!)... But, in the jungle small outposts, where there is only a blood analysis, they can go unnoticed, until now... Science in the last four centuries weren't as fast as in the 20th century... The apocalypse slowed down a lot the research activities of the Pentex... _ambiance_ This world is BOTH Paradise and Hell, both Faerie and mutant-horrors; I tried to create an intense hallucinatory/oniric/mystic atmostphere, reinforced by the use (and abuse) of drugs. Combat drugs for the soldiers, as well as the new plants used by the "shamans" and the Theurges (giving visions, "dreams", clairvoyance, or enhanced mental and physical abilities); some new beautiful wild flowers in the jungle with hallucinogen (psychotrop) pollens and perfumes... There is so much (natural) biochemical substances in the jungle that you are perpetually "drunk", euphoric... And even some toxic ones, which could well reduce a lot your life expectancy... In a way, it /is/ the Paradise (the Garden of Eden), but a cruel and dangerous one... Some of the soldiers patrols actually /are/ Fomori... Others are just soldiers (wyrm tainted)... Yes, 400 years later, it's the same story... But now, the Pentex is weak, and the Garous strong. And as they feel rather comfortable with the new world, of course, the tribes are divided, and there is war among the Garous once again... And also, "pure men" are not actually evil... They just try to survive, but the struggle is harsh for them, too... COOKBOOK - Ingredients Well, there are ancients legends about a race of "Jaguar-men" for all South America (and statues of weird men with cat-like faces... The more popular legendes dealt with sorcerers who could shapechange to wreak havok, they are called nahual. The nahual is a fuzzy concept, as it's also related to the animal companion a person has. The gods had their nahuals too; they could shapechange into them. There's also the Jaguar Knights, the second-ranking order of knighthood after the Eagle Knights. Though no shapechanging abilities are assigned to them, they wore armor resembling a jaguar.
