The symbol of a country.

This 1995 stamp is one out of a series of 9. Two out of the 9 have a 50c value. The other 7 show no value: they are permanent-validity stamps. This one is one..
"Gestandaardiseerde pos / Standarised mail": this mention makes stamps permanent-validity stamps. In 1995, the equivalent price was 60c for an inner South-Africa sending. If the inner-price was to change, stamps-prices would change at the post-office, but stamps bought before the increasing of the price would still be usable without paying nothing more.

The South African postal administration has never hesitate to issue permanent-validity stamps showing ( black or white ) rhinoceros.

Other examples: these three stamps ( white rhinoceros ). The first one and the third one are from booklets, and the second one is from a sheetlet of 10 stamps (2 strips of 5 different stamps - The big 5). With their mention "Postcard Rate", they are wonderful carriers of the animal that interests us ! No printed values give stamps more chances to be used during longer periods, and thus to be more wellknown (!!!)
