Indian rhinos.

Even if called (unicorn) Indian rhino, this animal hasn't the place it could have in the Indian philately. For sure, Indian rhino-stamps are as discreet as the rhinos in the Indian forests...

More on that, on this other stamp, it appears only in an inset ! But let's not be too sad: the subject isn't the rhino; so, let's be glad that 'our' animal is shown on it !

In India, rhinos are found in the state of Assam which is also known for its Oil refineries. Gauhati is written on the stamp and on the cancellation. Gauhati is the capital of the state of Assam and has since been renamed as Dispur. The rhinos are found in a famous game sanctuary called "Kaziranga" around 200 kms from Dispur.

Note that the Assam Regiment - an Indian army infantry regiment - has chosen the rhino as the emblem that is seen on the berets and on the belts that the soldiers (themselves selfcalled "rhinos" !) wear proudly.
