Venda
Northern part of the Republic of South-Africa, Venda has been independant from the 13th of september, 1979 and has issued stamps until 1994. Venda isn't the only part of RSA that have had its own stamps: among the others are Bophuthatswana, Transkei, Ciskei, the Zululand...
This stamp is out of a series of 4. It has been issued in 1990:
A block has been issued at the same time. The printed value is also 50c, but it was sold 1r50, benefits going to the organisation of a national philatelic exhibition. This block can be seen here:
Note that the cancellation is also rhino-designed.
