publié à Londres, en 1891, par Cassell & Company, l'ouvrage de 222 pages comporte plusieurs photos prises par l'auteur de même que des illustrations réalisées par Gustave Guggenheim à partir de photos faites par Millican durant son périple.

Dans son ouvrage, Nouvelle géographie universelle, le géographe français Élisée Reclus a publié, dans la partie consacrée à la Colombie, un texte sur les orchidées où il fait référence à l'ouvrage de Millican : Uno de esos cazadores de orquídeas, que tiene la audacia de recriminar la sistemática destrucción ejecutada por sus rivales, cuenta con orgullo cómo en una campaña de dos meses hizo derribar cuatro mil árboles para recoger cerca de diez mil odontoglossum, cambiando su campamento en la selva á medida que se adueñaba de su adorno floral para guardarlo en sus cajas (2)... (2) Albert Millican, Travels an adventures of en Orchid Hunter—E. R.—Creíble si llevaba 100 peones; y una expedición de esas habría hecho ruido en el país V. y V. source : Colombia. | En 1900, alors qu'il collectait des orchidées aux abords de l'Opón, un des affluents du fleuve Magdalena, Millican a été attaqué par des Indiens (présumément) et un de ses compagnons aurait été tué après avoir été blessé par une flèche empoisonnée. |

Commentaire sur l'ouvrage de Millican d'un participant au forum OrchidGuide Digest "the book has two titles on the spine and title page it is identified as Travels and Adventures of an Orchid Collector, however, on the front cover, embossed in gold, is Adventures of an Orchid Hunter, with Odontoglossum crispum decorating the cover. The author was British and he sailed aboard the Celestial Company's steamship Phantom from Liverpool on the "third Saturday of the eighth month of Her Majesty Queen Victoria's Jubilee year". His accounts throughout the book are detailed and very complete regarding everything i.e. furniture, companions, dishes, people seen, climate, living conditions etc. etc. He apparently was working for R. Brooman White, Esq. as in his dedication he acknowledges "...whose wealth and love of orchids have encouraged and supported me in the journeys described, and whose kindness has rendered the present publication possible". R. Brooman White, as a barrister, was not likely to have been in the commercial orchid business, but most likely received all plants from Millican. The book primarily deals with his day to day life while collecting. He goes into detail about the people and places he encounters. I would judge the book of little significance to collecting history, yet it does provide some interesting insights.
