History of the Count of FOIX

S on of Roger-Bernard I, he becomes a count of Foix in 1188. It is maybe him that arouses debate between Cathars and Christians, in 1207 . In 1209, he submits quickly to the Crusaders then breaks armistice by attacking Fanjeaux, after what it he tries to negotiate. A conference held in May, 1210 to Pamiers with Raimond VI and Montfort ends in an armistice imposed by Pierre II of Aragon. Gradually , moreover, Raimond - Roger enters the aragonaise's orbit, becoming the right-hand man of Pierre II in January, 1213, he is condemned in the council of Lavaur and excommunicated in May, 1213. He participates in the battle of Muret and, in April, 1214, submits and delivers Foix's castle. The negotiations that he leads with the Church having failed by Montfort's will, he comes in Toulouse to help Raimond VI during the siege of 1217/1218, getting back Foix's castle on order of the pope at the same time. In 1219, he wins in Baziège a decisive victory following which Raimond VI gives him Montauban. Two years later, he liberates Trencavel's lands but stops his career there. He lives especially in Toulouse where he is present at the accession of Raimond VII, on September 21, 1222. He dies in 1223, Roger-Bernard II succeeding him at the head of Foix's county.
