Word « oil », composed starting from two Latin words will petra and oleum, literally means « oil of stone » : one indeed finds oil in sedimentary rocks of the earth's crust in liquid form. There also exists in gas or solid form. Chemically, oil is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons with small quantities of nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur. According to layers, it presents a large variety, between natural gas, made up mainly of methane, and solid or semi-solid forms as asphalt and bitumens, while passing by all the liquid intermediate forms.
Oil and the natural gas are currently raw materials mineral and energy most used, in particular in form of fuels, of drugs, plastics or even of cosmetics. Therefore oil it has become, for one century, a strategic product which was stake many conflicts.

In less than one year, courses of black gold were appreciated of 170 %, reaching their higher level since conflict with Iraq, in 1991, whereas costs of exploration-production were divided by eight into fifteen years. This situation is direct result of restrictive policy of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) aiming at catching up with losses wiped after fall of courses of 1997-1998.

The United States which makes good figure in front of international opinion by appearing embarrassed by the situation, has in fact any interest so that following situation perdure and reason it. First of all high prices of oil will in long term stimulate American investments in exploration-production, which will enable them not to more be dependent to 51 % on imported oil as it is case to date.
Then enrichment of exporting oil countries, in particular those which form part of allied of the United States, avoids a political and economic destabilization to them resulting from movements extremists. It should be known that attacks of pipelines multiplied these last years. They are fruit of competitions tribales (Nigeria) or regional (Turkey-Russia, Tchétchènes-PKK), of religious fanaticism (GIA, in Algeria), of guerrilla...
In Saudi Arabia, oil and its derivatives represent 90 % of exports and 80 % of the budget revenue of the State. These countries recycle for a good part of their petrodollars in the states of the Uncle Sam in the form of purchase of weapons in order to guarantee the perenniality of their installations, and by the same one, that of the mondial economic system. These points are essential with comprehension of difficult balance which it is necessary to know to keep in a correct price and a assured provisioning.

Except activities of exploration and production of oil and gas, and those of the transformation of these raw materials into sources of energy, these companies also excel in various petrochemical fields, such as production of rubbers, resins, inks, paintings or adhesives. They produce, via their subsidiary companies, of derived from hydrocarbons intended for agriculture : fungicides, insecticides, weedkillers, algicides and a vast range of solid manures or liquids.

For example, methane is employed for methanol and ammonia production. And the nitrate fertilizers all are of derived from ammonia. The dyes for the hair contain some too.

Benzene is as for him a solvent employed in industries of lacquers and rubber; it is used like solvent in many reactions. Benzene is a basic commodity for the synthesis of many compounds (phenol, aniline, etc).

Uses development of benzene by chemical industries is result of considerable increases in the consumption synthesis phenol, cyclohexane, styrene, detergents, chlorinated derivatives, aniline and maleic acid. The styrene copolymers (resin ABS) are used by electric household appliances industry and cars manufacturer (castings chromables, parts thermo-formables for body). Majority of these products are used as raw materials with manufacture of plastics and synthetic fibres whose expansion is considerable.
Another component of oil is naphthalene which is very much used in chemical industries, in particular in manufacture of the dyes (alizarin, indigo, azo dyes), of pharmaceutical products (naphthols, mercurochrome, rhodamines), of plastics (resins phtalic and glycerophthalic), of plasticizers (phthalates d’éthyle and of butyl), of perfumes, of tanins, of photographic products.

Toluene is used like disinfecting and parasiticide, like solvent for lacquers, solvent in many reactions and starting point in synthesis of many compounds (trinitrotoluene, toluidines, etc). For this reason, toluene is used for manufacture of explosives, colouring matters, perfumes and pharmaceutical products.

Coal-chemical industry also makes it possible to obtain rarer products such cyclopentadiene, which lends itself to many syntheses in field of pharmaceutical products, perfumes, insecticides and the resins.

Grande Paroisse, a subsidiary company of Elf Atochem, produced and markets products from dies nitrogenized, sulphur and phosphated, and used in sectors as various as pharmacy, agro-alimentary one, metallurgy.
TotalFina-Elf has also more than a third of Sanofi-Synthélabo, pharmaceutical industry. The latter is responsible for a drug called Heparine, used as anticoagulent during medical treatments of cancer...

Voluntary ones of the first hour which took part in the operations of cleaning " bailed out of an increased risk of cancer of the skin ", according to André Picot, director of CNRS chemical risks prevention Unit. In 1992, a report of Science Academy of the United States concluded that " consumption of residues of pesticides in food is responsible for 1,4 million death per cancer in the space of one génération ".
Exaggerated spreading of manure supports accumulation of nitrates in ground water, and thus in plants which we consume. Nitrates were shown to support appearance of cancers in man at the end of the Sixties, although that can never be shown. In addition to the carcinogenic incidences, Chris Williams, of the University of London, estimates that pollutants like lead, the BPC (polychlorés biphenyls) and radiations affect the brain directly. High-output harvests modern have very low contents of iron, which makes only facilitate absorption of lead by organism.

Considering carcinogenic effects of various products resulting from hydrocarbons (containing hydrocarbon lorry drivers, plant health products), one understands better why oil companies invest in laboratories of pharmaceutical research and development. Diseases caused by their own products their also bear interest for they market, via their subsidiary companies, of drugs allowing to care for them.

When one leans on the various melanomists, one initially shows bronzing fashion which inconsiderately increases sun bodies exposures times. In order to fight against carcinomes, laboratories redouble ingeniousness to protect our skin. But I reassure myself by saying to me that these interrogations are only fruit of one is delirious paranoid, one of the forms of schizophrenia. Distribution by great groups of pathologies remains relatively stable in time. One however notes the progression of weight of tumours which became first cause of death for men whereas it was before about circulatory pathology. This relative increase in weight of the tumours is continuous whatever sex and age, in spite of localised progress.

Tobacco, food, alcohol and sun weigh in a considerable way on population mortality. But it would be judicious to wonder whether various types of cancer, as melanomist who is in recrudescence since Thirties, are only caused by these factors. We better also understands why the State does not do anything to prohibit the use of tobacco. It is true that this last is a substantial basket for the cases of the Public Treasury .

But one will not remove an idea that tobacco is before a whole scapegoat when one speaks about cancer of respiratory tracts. It is enough that a person reached of such a disease smokes so that she is classified among victims of nicotinism. When first problems involved in asbestos appeared, one initially made wear hat to the cigarette !

The smoke of the tobacco contains more than 4 000 substances. Some of these substances are cancerogenic. For example benzopyrene there is found; but it should be known that this one is particularly abundant in the fume, soots and the exhausts of engines (diesels in particular). A study was undertaken by James Corbett and Paul Fishbeck of the University Carnegie Mellon, Pennsylvania (ÉtatsUnis), in 1997. It shows that per ton of fuel consumed, the cargo liners propelled by diesel engines are one of the most important sources of air pollution on a planetary scale...
One also finds in the substance cancerogenic of the tobacco the cadmium, used in the batteries, the vinyl chloride, used in the production of the plastics, but also of many hydrocarbon derivatives, as well as substances pharmacologically active, which makes only increase confusion with other factors.

Legality of this drug, like all distort them reasons called upon above to justify certain death rates, is used to cover development of cancers related to the presence of hydrocarbons in all its forms. Food that we eat to the air that we let us breathe, of the industrial conglomerates on which are based our economy until the world political balance, the stake which the exploitation of hydrocarbons represents largely exceeds the problems generated by oil slicks.
