At the beginning of the season 1993-1994, David Ginola appears with the eyes of all the observers like an essential holder of the team of France. But its relations with Gerard Houiller, the coach, are sometimes tended, and it is with much bitterness that he accepts his not-selection in the eleven of departure at the time of a match against Bulgaria, qualifier for the final phase of the World cup 1994, envisaged in the United States  the following summer. However, Ginola made rather a success of the preceding match against Israel - lost, it is true - and scored a superb goal.

Until the last moments of this decisive match, he is on the bench,when G.Houiller decides to make him enter. There remain a few minutes to be played. France holds this null match necessary and sufficient to ensure its qualification. Soon, the tricolour ones profit from a corner on the right side. Impatient David, draws it and dispatches the balloon towards the Bulgarian penalty area where no French attacker is able to take it again. The continuation is a true nightmare: the Bulgarian defenders recover the ball and, in less time than one should not to write it, transmit it to from now on celebrates Kostadinov, which misleads Bernard LAMA.
 

The French players, the Park of the Princes and France of football are defeated. The qualification for the World Cup has just changed side. David Ginola is dedicated to the shouts of a whole crowd of " pseudo-supporters " which will reproach him a long time this lost match!
