1. Spring 1998, Beginning
of work
Those three persons are on the place
where the Monument of the Australian Memorial Park now stands. It was build
on a chalk platform. The ground here is stony and almost clayey.
2. The Monument in its
raw state
The two big concrete walls were poured
on the spot, while the vibrated concrete others were made outside before
being installed.
3. The finalizing
The Monument starts to be covered with
black granite tiles from Australia. Behind, the five fibreglass masts are
already set up. In the foreground, the Memorial Park trench has been made-up.
4. Towards the finishing
The Monument is completely covered
with granite. The Rising Sun - Australian army symbol - and other draws
are clearly visible. Landscape gardeners had unrolled grass.
5. Two days before unveiling
Officials and security people are doing
a last inspection while workers and scaffoldings are still there.
