A contemporary comedy about friendship, creativity and the complexities of human relationships,

Art is a highly acclaimed hit in West End and Broadway. The play has been performed around the

world and has won numerous awards including the Moliére Award for Best Play (France,),

Tony Award for Play of the Year (USA) and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Play (UK).

Provocative, intelligent and witty, Art poses the age-old question of “What is art?”.

Written by French playwright Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton

(winner of Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for Dangerous Liaisons), Art focuses on the friendship

between three men. Their relationships are turned upside down when one of them buys an

expensive piece of modern art – a white canvas crossed by barely visible lines. Serge (Philip Moon)

buys the painting but Marc (Donald Li) hates it, and Yvan (Ramesh Panicker) is caught in the middle between his two friends.

SRT first staged Art in 1998 to sold-out houses. With great critical acclaim and resounding success,

SRT has received more requests to re-stage this play than any other.

What the Critics say:

“An impeccably tailored comedy.” (New York Times)

“Wildly funny. You’ll roar with laughter.” (New York Post)

“Deeply funny entertainment…” (The Straits Times)

“Art takes away the yawny old bore, the play of ideas, and jolts it to life.” (Newsweek)
