In the Southern Alpes, gateway to Provence with a Mediterranean climate, a mountainous fortress clearly separates the Dévoluy from its neighbours the Ecrins and Vercors.
Virtually completely cut of from the world only 100 years ago the
village of St Etienne en Dévoluy is accessible today by a pass commanding
stunning views of the Souloise Gorges and the spectacular Col du Noyer
to the east with its famous Napoleonic refuge. The village St Etienne
en Dévoluy (1,300 m alt.), less than 2 miles from the ski resorts
Superdévoluy and La Joue de Loup and 65 miles of ski slopes. Ski shuttle

The Dévoluy offers a wide range
of winter and summer activities including, cycling, rambling, caving
(over 300 caves "coldrum") via ferrata as well as, of course, cross-country
and alpine skiing.
