Several breeds don't need to be shaved : Retreiver, Collie, Bouvier Bernois, St-Bernard, Shetland, etc.,.
First of all, I'll do a pre-grooming inspection of the animal in presence of his owner.
First, I shave between pads
; genital area to avoid the accumulation of urine in the coat, the anus
area and a part of the stomach.
Then I brush the animal
to remove mats and the undercoat. I clip and file the nails, clean ears
and, I express anal glands only when it's necessary.
I wash the dog with a shampoo
suited to his needs : dandruffs caused by dry skin, moisture's dandruffs
, etc.,. I can also give a treatment to obtain a more silky coat,
use a lusterto highlight the color, etc.,.
Comes the drying,
brushing once again, very deeply.
I finish by trimming and
styling the fringes of paws, skirt and parts that need it.
Some pet owners do shave their dog because they have skin problems or because their vacuum cleaner can't take it any more !!!
Several medium or long haircoat dogs are very beautiful once shaved !!! Don't hesitate to visit me at LE MAGICHIEN !!!
I have a short haired dog ; what are you doing when grooming a dog like this ???
Dogs with short coat like
Boxer, Labrador, Danois, etc., can be groomed !!! Most important is the
hygiene : nails, ears, anal glands if necessary.
During the bath, the short
haired dog will loose a lot of hair as well as during the drying.
I will also make sure that there's no skin problems.
The Labrador likes to swim in summer time and he is exposed to "hot spots". Many pet owners will make their Labrador shaved ; faster drying, decrease of the loss of coat, etc.,. The owner, the dog and the vacuum cleaner will be all happy !!!
When I shave a short haired dog, I shave him a first time before bathing and a second time, after the drying, to obtain a nice finish.
Does a cat need to be groomed ??? How are you doing that ???
If you lick your fingers,
will they be really clean ???
You would be surprised
noticing how the water of a cat bath is often very dirty !
Often, the only way to
remove mats on a cat, will be to shave it. Generally, cats will well react
to the grooming in presence of their owner.
I shave, clip and
file nails, clean ears and express anal glands if necessary.
Then, I wash, dry and I
shave it a second time before finishing with a scissors
style cut.
In general, it takes me
just an hour and a half to groom Mr/Mrs cat !!!
What is a scissors style cut ???
A scissors style cut allows me to execute a styling trimming. It's more esthetic but needs more daily brushing by the fact that the coat is longer than shaved.
Not clipping the nails of
your animal will on the long run make them broke and let the nerves exposed
to air.
Too long nails could on
the long run make your pet having walking difficulties, causing damage/deformation
of its culumn.
The nerves are growing
as the nails ; not clipping them regularly, the groomer could have to file
them with a machine.
We can not shave a dog during cold season !
Small pets like rabbits, hamsters, etc., living in cage need some cares too. Occasionally, bathing them has to be done !
