COMPARAISON DE L'EFFICACITE, DE LA TOLERANCE ET DE L'ACCEPTABILITE DE L'HALOFANTRINE ET DE L'ASSOCIATION MEFLOQUINE/SULFADOXINE/PYRIMETHAMINE DANS LE TRAITEMENT DU PALUDISME AIGU DE L'ENFANT
M. Kombila

SUMMARY
This comparative study was performed to compare the efficacy and safety of Halfan© (halofantrine chlorhydrate) versus Fansimef© (mefloquine + sulfadoxine + pyrimethamine) in the treatment of acute malaria in children in an endemic area in Gabon. The very good efficacy and safety of Halfan© in acute malaria was confirmed. The clinical efficacy was faster in the Halofantrine group than in the Fansimef© group : fever, the main clinical symptom, disappeared faster (p < 0,05 on day 2) in the patients treated by halofantrine. No recrudescence was observed in both groups. In paralell with this, better tolerance (100 % versus 70 %) and acceptability (100 % versus 70 %) was observed by the investigator in the halofantrine group.
This comparative study showed again the excellent efficacy and tolerance of Halfan© in the treatment of acute malaria in children.
