Q. There is a history of Court 2 providing a lot of upsets. Do you think about that when you go on the court there?
A. Not at all, because I always had great matches on Court 2, either in the junior time or later, in doubles and also singles. So I like the court today.
Q. Martina, do you think now you are in a good position to win this tournament? The draw is very favourable for you, your half of the draw.
A. Well, nobody saw me as a favourite in the beginning of the tournament, but I've got through pretty easily until now. My first match was a little harder, because you always have to get used to it, and I was improving by every match. So I feel pretty good, and the draw doesn't look too bad for me.
Q. After what you said in Paris, was this too early?
A. It's so different if you play here at Wimbledon, and we have just a house across the street and that's no problem, and I got pretty lucky, I got no rain delays, so I finished up at the right time. So I've got to play doubles and mixed doubles today, maybe, so I just take it as it is. I have to do that.
Q. Do you feel at ease on grass, like you feel at ease on other surfaces?
A. This is my only tournament I play in the whole year on grass courts. Maybe in a few years I'll play also Eastbourne or Rosmalen, or some of these tournaments, but I think for me it's better to have the preparation on grass, but the more you play on it, the worse you can get as well. You practise indoors at the beginning or before the match starts. So it's been a big help for me.
Q. Will this be the tournament you would most like to win?
A. Of course it's for every tennis player, it's a big goal to win this tournament. It is for me too.
Q. What is your feeling when you do a return that will become a drop shot, like you did it in the last point of the match?
A. I think I got pretty lucky there. I mean, I've got almost no chance. She served out wide with a lefty serve, and I didn't get many chances. I barely got to the ball. So that was the only chance to make a drop shot, and cut it pretty much, and it just almost bounced back on my side.
Q. What do you think of Sabine Appelmans? You outclassed her or not?
A. I played very well in the first set. I was very concentrated. I told her after the match, "Well, I've got two more matches to go, so I want to keep it short", that's why I played so well. In the first set, almost everything that came in I wanted to play, and in the second set, I got a little bit more tired, or a little more relaxed and concentrated on some points, but especially that game at 3-3 when I made a break. So that was almost - that was the most important game in the second set.
Q. Was this the best you've played at Wimbledon?
A. The first set was really good, yes, I think so.
Q. Martina, is your confidence so high at the moment that you feel you can win matches quickly if you have to?
A. It's not that way, but I just concentrate more. You never want to stay too long out there, if you have got more matches to play in the next hours. But I think I improved a lot in the last half year, and again Sabine Appelmans, I felt very good today in the warm-up, and I felt I have a good chance, because she's a very good baseliner, but I think I'm even a little bit better. That's why I'm ranked number 1.
Q. Were you thinking about the weather, watching the clouds come in?
A. Well, I saw there was a very dark spot over Court 2, but I got so lucky, the last shot was at the right time, and then as soon as we stopped, there were two or three drops coming down.
Q. What did you think about the crowd?
A. I mean, I think she had a couple of fans with her, Sabine, from Holland - I don't know, because she's a very nice girl. I mean, she was - or last year, or this year, I don't know, she was like the nicest player on the tour. So I think the guys like her.
Q. Which men's match do you want to see now, do you want to watch?
A. I could say I don't care about men's, as they don't care about women's.
Q. Who do you see as the main danger to you in the tournament?
A. Every match is very hard. I just played very good, very concentrated until now, and, I mean, Chladkova, she beat Davenport, and also she had a couple of great matches. I know her since I'm very little. I grew up with her in Czech Republic on the tournaments for nine years. She was a very good friend of mine, and we have changed a little bit, because I started to play juniors, and now she's coming up, she's one of the young players I think which are very talented, and she showed what she can do in this tournament. Vento I don't know that well.
Q. Are the doubles matches important to you?
A. Doubles matches?
Q. Are the two doubles tournaments that you are in, are they important to you also?
A. Well, doubles, of course. You never want to lose if you go out on the court there. But singles is of course much more important to me, and mixed doubles I think is fun, and with Arantxa, I think we have a very good chance to win the whole tournament, so ...
Q. What did you say after the match to Sabine, that you had two more matches and you wanted to keep it short, is that what you said?
A. Yes, we have a very good relationship together.
Q. Did she laugh?
A. Of course. She said after, when we gave the hands to each other, "You played well, I almost had no chance", later on, and she apparently had no chance in the first set, especially, when I concentrated for the most important points.
