Q. Do you think it was a below par performance from you, you were making a lot of mistakes, or something?
A. Well, it wasn't, for sure, one of my best performances at this tournament, but she just really went for the shots, and she made also a lot of winners, especially on my second serve. I was like, "Oh, God, another winner". But I mean, she also made a lot of errors. So I kind of tried to keep the ball in the game, and I was kind of sometimes waiting for the mistakes. But she made more mistakes today than winners, and I looked also a little bit her match yesterday, and I saw she can really play pretty well also.
Q. How do you feel today compared to yesterday with your cold?
A. Much better, much better.
Q. After the match, what did you say to Anna?
A. Well, I mean, she was, like, all the court is not very well, not very nice, as I said yesterday, and it was even worse today because we played the first match, so it was a little flatter, but sometimes yesterday I said it was like a soccer place. So a lot of mis-hits, and not very nice bouncing on the court. But I said, "Well, you had a great tournament". She said, "Yes, not bad".
Q. At what point in this match do you feel that you finally found your serve again?
A. I would say only at the end, like the last four games I played much better, much more aggressive.
Q. Do you sense continued improvement on her part? Do you feel her at all getting closer to you? Obviously it's two sets, boom, you knocked her out.
A. No one is going to ask what the score was. It's just a victory. But for sure, she's a much better player on this surface. Usually her forehand is a little shaky, but on this surface, because everything is very low and very flat, so she likes to hit it very early, and the cross-court forehand wasn't too bad.
Q. The fact that you have not dropped a set throughout the tournament must give you a lot of confidence going into the final?
A. Yes, of course, but after today's performance, it wasn't that great, but I still won it, because you always are a little bit nervous if you play someone as Anna is, I beat her just the last tournament, pretty easily. She has nothing to lose, and she for sure wants to give her best. So you think this time it's going to be a little harder than last time. So that's a little different. But for sure, I've got to improve something for Saturday.
Q. Do you envision with both of you so young and so strong that you might have the type of rivalry over the next several years a la Seles and Graf and some of the other great ones?
A. Yes, we're, like, when we had to make the pictures after the toss, she said, "Like another time", so I said, "Well, this is not the first time, and I'm sure there are going to be many more times", before we started the warm-up.
Q. Is your relationship with her reasonably friendly considering the rivalry that you have, or is it less than friendly?
A. I don't think it's such a big rivalry. I mean, just everybody else is making a rivalry of it. I think till now I've always been better, and I always beat her at the great tournaments, as I did this time again. So she still has something to improve, but she's getting better and better.
Q. After what happened in Paris, are you going to go into this final with anything different in your mind, any different attitude?
A. Yes, of course. I will have a day off tomorrow, and, well, I'm still going to play doubles, or maybe also mixed doubles if we win today. But for sure, I'm going to have an easier day, and I think both the players, even if it's going to be Arantxa, I beat her in Paris and Jana for sure, she's a very hard player to beat on grass court but anyway, they've both been in the finals already, so I just take my chance. I have nothing to lose there.
Q. Between tournaments, how much concentration are you putting on increasing the power of your service?
A. My serve was never the strongest side of my game, but on grass it's pretty bad if you don't put the first serves too many times in, and today it wasn't just working as well as I wanted to have it. But it's also, if someone is on the other side, as Anna is, she's got a really good return. So that puts a little more pressure on you, and you're, like, I have to put it, otherwise she's going to kill me. So that makes a difference.
Q. What are you going to do about your serve?
A. I think most of it, it's just mentally, you know, I know I can serve well if I really concentrate all the time, but I just had also very good matches when I served well against Monica. So I said, like, after the match, I hate this court, I hate grass, because you have to think differently on this surface. You just have to put the first serve in a lot more often, yes.
Q. If you were able to choose, which opponent would you prefer in the final?
A. It's hard to say. I mean, Arantxa was in the finals for the last two years, and Jana, for sure she's a big chance to win this tournament this time.
Q. With them both being different kinds of players, would your game plan be dependent on who you met in the final?
A. I mean, if I would play Jana, for sure I don't have to give her too many chances to get to the net and play a lot of passing shots, and against Arantxa, then there will be a lot of rallies from the baseline.
Q. What will be going through your mind on Saturday, when you will be stepping out for the final?
A. I don't know. It's another finals at a Grand Slam tournament. It's different than it was in Australia. I felt very well there. I just played a great match against Mary Pierce there. In Paris I made another finals, and I was already tired when I stepped on the court, so I wasn't in great shape after the surgery, I knew that. It was kind of disappointing that I was not 100 per cent there, but I was so happy I got to the finals, because that match against Monica, I've never been as happy as when I won that match, and this time against either Jana or Arantxa, I'm really looking forward to it, and for sure you always want to make a best performance at Wimbledon's finals.
Q. Do you think it will be your greatest feeling?
A. After I win, yes.
Q. You mention your feeling after beating Monica in Paris. What has been the one highlight of the tournament so far for you here?
A. Here?
Q. Yes.
A. I won all the matches in two sets, and pretty easily. The first one was a little harder, but it's always at the Grand Slam tournament, the first match is, like, you don't know how to play, or what to expect, a little pressure is there. You don't want to lose first round in a big tournament. But later on I improved myself, and I always got better and better.
Q. Do you think Saturday could be the first of many for you if you win, the first of many titles here?
A. First of many titles? I don't know. Hopefully.
Q. Has Paris stayed with you at all? Obviously you had a great opportunity there, but Iva played very well. Has that loss stayed with you at all, or have you been able to throw it away?
A. Yes, of course. It's just gone. I made a great performance there. No one can really appreciate that, what happened after the surgery, I'd just come back after five weeks, and I couldn't practise as I was used to. It was almost an unreal performance, what I did there.
Q. Do you feel like you are 100 per cent physically now?
A. Yes, definitely.
Q. Does it make it extra special, because Martina Navratilova, who you were named after, won so many titles here?
A. I'm a little different player than she is. I mean, she just must have loved this tennis court out here, especially the Centre Court. She had such a different game than I do. I think I'm much more the player from the baseline, and I also step in sometimes, but it's just hard. She just loved the Wimbledon tournament. Hopefully I will love it one day too.
Q. You have talked a lot about being number 1 ranked during Wimbledon. How valuable is it to have that as a confidence boost?
A. For sure you always go with a lot of self-confidence on the court, because I only lost one match in this year. So there is no reason to not have self-confidence.
