J. Lo, Ricky Martin On Charity Single Unveiled At White House

'El Ultimo Adios' also features Gloria Estefan, Jon Secada, Christina Aguilera.

Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada premiered "El Ultimo Adios" — a song the two recorded with a virtual supergroup of Latin music luminaries including Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez — at the White House on Friday, the same day the charity single was sent to radio stations.

The song, also recorded in English and titled "The Last Goodbye," will raise money for the American Red Cross and the United Way to assist families of victims of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, according to a publicist for Estefan Enterprises in Miami.

Producer Emilio Estefan Jr. put together the lineup, which featured more than 70 artists including Shakira, Christina Aguilera, José Feliciano and Tito Puente Jr. While basic tracks were recorded in Miami, most of the artists added their vocals from studios in New York; Los Angeles; Madrid, Spain; Mexico City; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Corpus Christi, Texas.

"In the four minutes of this song, we are sending a message of unity and hope that will last a lifetime," Emilio Estefan Jr. said in a statement. "Different music genres were represented, [and] all the artists sang together to inspire faith and hope to all affected by this tragedy."

Gloria Estefan and Secada, who co-wrote "El Ultimo Adios" with Peruvian singer/songwriter Gian Marco, performed the song at a White House event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. They were joined by more than a dozen artists including jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. A CD with both the English- and Spanish-language versions will be released in November, according to the publicist.(sonicnet.com)

The lineup for the Oct. 21 United We Stand -- What More Can I Give? concert has grown by three, as R&B/pop acts Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, and Usher have all signed on for the Oct. 21 concert in Washington, D.C. The trio of artists join previously announced acts Michael Jackson, 'N Sync, Aerosmith, the Backstreet Boys, Rod Stewart, Ricky Martin, Train, P. Diddy, Goo Goo Dolls, James Brown, and Al Green for the event, to be held at RFK Stadium. More artists will be announced in the days leading up to the concert.

Tickets for the event went on sale today (Oct. 12), and are nearly sold-out, according to a statement from organizers. Proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross Liberty Relief Fund, the Salvation Army Relief Fund, and the Pentagon Relief Fund.(bilboard.com)

Ricky Martin to star in George Romero film

Ricky Martin is going into the movies — and the pop superstar's first flick will be directed by the man who terrified the world with Night of the Living Dead.

The Latin heartthrob is in "advanced negotiations" to play a leading role in the political action thriller, The Assassination, according to Douglas Witkins, president of Highland Crest Pictures.

And Martin has already agreed to perform the lead song and contribute to the soundtrack, Witkins said.

The drama, to start filming in April, will be helmed by George Romero, who grossed out movie audiences in 1968 with his tale of flesh-eating ghouls loose in Pennsylvania.

The story is based on the real-life assassination of Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo, who ruled the troubled Caribbean nation from 1930 to 1961.

Martin, 29, would play Tavito del al Maza, a heroic revolutionary.

Others expected to appear with Martin are Ed Harris, star of Pollock, and acting veterans Anthony Quinn and Oscar-winner James Coburn.

Harris would portray the CIA operative who promises weapons and other support for the uprising, Quinn would take the role of Trujillo and Coburn would appear as U.S. Ambassador Joseph Farland.

"It will be photographed in Martin's home turf of Puerto Rico and be set in the last tumultuous years of Trujillo's regime, which was known for its lack of respect for human rights," Witkins said.

"It details the revolution fomented against the dictator by the CIA and the Kennedy administration, then abandoned at the last minute in the wake of the Bay of Pigs fiasco."

The Post has learned Martin's movie debut will primarily be shot in English, with some Spanish segments added. (foxnews)
