Today's Rant: Our society, and pot.

After having smoked pot for over three years now i can say very few bad things about it. The people i have met who smoke it tend to be extremely friendly and amicable. The only problems that have ever arisin from my smoking pot have always had to do with law enforcement. A friend and i may be sitting on a bench in a park smoking a joint, bothering no one and the peacefullness is destroyed when the cops come up with their flashlights and their radios demanding ID, questiong our prescence in a public park and generally harassing us

I'm always tempted to ask them whether they have locked up all the rapists, murderers, thieves, and kidnappers. One would asume that that would be the only reason they are harrassing my friends and i who cause no harm to society. Unless of course the people making up the laws and enforce them are fucking IDIOTS!!

You'd think that any lawmaker who cares about his/her country and believes in the individual's right to the pursuit of hapiness would, when tackling the issue of drugs, find out which policies work and which don't and find out how money could be best spent to make communities safer. Any who take this honest and utterly logical approach would discover that an American style war on drugs doesn't work, has never worked and will never work. It's a failure for the same reasons as probition failed. People want to alter their consciousness and will continue to do so for the rest of time.

There has never been a society which has not seeked to alter its conscousness in some way. In ours it is through caffene, tobacco, and alcohol that many people do this.

Marijuana is one of the safest substances known to man, there have been no recorded deaths from it and long term use does little damage. Doesn't it make you wonder when you find out that the new york times newspaper did a study on six(6) drugs; marijuana, caffeine, tabacco, alcohol, cocaine and heroin. The study found that of all six substances; marijuana was the safest and healthiest substance in every single category. It is not addictive, at least not physically, while every single other one is.

Some will try to scare you with the fact that marijuana has hundreds of unidentified chemicals, and while this may be true it is certainly misleading. Coffee happens to have about a thousand different chemicals, 6 of which have been shown to cause cancer in lab rats. Yet the government who so deeply cares for our health and well being, enough so to fight a massive war on some drugs, has not banned coffe and persecuted it's users.

This reminds me of what someone told me one time: perhaps the reason the government does not want to legalize pot is because it makes you think. Alcohol makes it near immpossible to have any rational thought, so it is perfect for a government which seems to want complacent citizens who are willing to have their individual freedoms taken away one by one...

Well, did I offend you, strike a chord, make you smile, make you frown, etc? Comments, thoughts, or suggestions are welcome.
