This
patent particularly involves the parts of awnings which touch the ground and
which are commonly know as mud flaps.
At the end of holidays or camping season these flaps are soiled by mud, grass
and by being trodden on, and need to be thoroughly cleaned before the awning can
be stored away satisfactorily. In order to make this operation, usualy involving
a certain degree of discomfort (positions), less tiresome, the awning is
unpegged (that is, the pegs are taken out of the ground) and therefore becomes
particularly vulnerable to wind with the risk of tearing and an eventual danger
for those around (instability of the frame).
The solution proposed is therefore to make
these flaps detachable.
Making these flaps "detachable"
has several incidental advantages :
-
They can be removed without dismantling the awning.
-
They can be cleaned easily at a
water point or even at the sink found in every camp site.
-
The awning itself remains dry (awnings are often folded and
stored away with damp stitching).
-
No water or soap is split around the awning which can be a
nuisance when dismantling and folding it.
-
The flaps, which are often torn by being accidentally trodden on
or strong gusts of wind, become immediately replaceable, thus avoiding tedious
and costly repairs.
-
In the case of rapid dismantling (just before the rain) or
simply in order to make the most of the last day of holidays, the flaps may even
be transported dirty (in a plastic bag, for exemple) and cleaned later.
With detachable flaps:
- easy cleaning
