Client Configurations for LES DUMMIES

WinNT / Win2K

Differences with Win9x.

There is no autoexec.bat file with WinNT / Win2K systems.
(The sure thing is that your autoexec.bat file won't be taken into account)
To set environment variables, or to perform SUBSTitutions (I always had my privacy-related stuff on some P:), you'll need different techniques.

Setting Environment Variables.

WorkStation|Right-Click->Properties|Advanced|EnvironmentVariables

I rather set those environment variables (MIXPATH PGPPATH TZ) at 'System', level, instead of 'User' level.
Your mileage may vary

Running AutoexNT.exe (to perform SUBST).

There may be other techniques, but autoexnt.exe gives me an environment (disks mapping) I am familiar with...
see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;243486
Download the autoexnt package (from me if you want)
UNZIP to %SystemRoot%\System32
Autoexnt.bat
Autoexnt.exe
Servmess.dll
Instexnt.exe

At a command prompt, type
instexnt install [ENTER]
You should receive the following message:
CreateService AutoExNT SUCCESS with interactive flag turned off

The autoexnt.bat file spells for example:
subst G: D:\~ggg
subst H: D:\~hhh
subst V: D:\~vvv
subst P: D:\~Privacy
subst Y: D:\~Privacy\Reliable\MyStats
subst Z: D:\~zzz
subst W: C:\WINNT\Temp

del P:\Pmail\Mail\Admin\MAILBOXP.LCK

net start apache2
net stop autoexnt
