Open Letter to Madame LE LOUARN (Culture Ministery) to Monsieur BONNET (Former Interior Minister, Former Mayor of CARNAC and presently 1rst joint Mayor), and to Monsieur BUQUEN (outgoing Mayor),

Today by your own doings the Megalithic Alignments in Carnac are now solidly trapped inside high enclosures. Madame, Messieurs, if these enclosures are ugly it is not as much for their standard and so ordinary aspect, as for the be-littleing nature they impose on the site. You have indeed made use of your lack of respect and of all the vulgarity of which you are able. What a proud provocation... As for us we consider that act as a vulgar profanation.

Profanation of the Memory, Confiscation of the Imaginary. You are terrorists given freedom in the secret garden of the common. Blown up with importance and certitudes and moved by the totalitary attitude of those who know nothing but the truth, you have ignored the voices of 87% who refused to let this project go ahead. Chinese did not use other methods to flaten Tibet. For that reason your deserve to be ridiculised.

You, elected members of the Republic, and your friends, big private investors, have decided to release from that worldly famous archeological site, the gold value it had detained for too long 'in its fascinating stone claws.

Rationalise, exploit. Here is your song. And to legitimise the future jackpot, may be will you erect the so-called " employment creation flag... Times are difficult and no string can be ignored. Today one can generate any crookery as long as the employment alibi is mirrored.

You have displayed information signs written in 4 languages to guide visitors to the content of your action. We read that the reason of these barricades is to protect the stones froin the heavy-shoes footsteps of the tourists, which are endangering the stability of the Menhirs. We read too that for that reason, we can only admire them by acquitting ourselves of a right of way. And here we burst out laughing, for since we are kids we have always seen the Menhirs in Carnac surrounded by a beautiful bush of goarse with strong and agressive thorns. And we treat as dirty liars who pretend the contrary.

Stop annoying us. Menhirs are not made of porcelain, and let's stop seeing them as fragile flowers from. the dunes. They stand erect since 7 000 years and they will see us all die, one after the other. Arguing for protection is devious. A clever lie.

These places are weighed with spirit and are the legitimate property of each individual. And you want to impose to, visitors the respect they owe to these stones. Noble task, Madame, Messieurs. However, learn yourself that respect by trusting people's sensitivity and intelligence. Educate, enlighten, take responsability. Here is one noble task and a more difficult one to realise than consisting in making money by exploiting our past history. That , any dumb man from. Texas who dreams of big motorcars, can do it. It is a poor reflex. One could may be invent a new trend for the century we are just starting. Less appetite for Money, more Sense and Depth.

Lets all gather our ideas and imagination and lets find a system which will let the visitor in a position of astonishment, thought and respect. To abuse people by charging them to visit their own patrimony, to lead them through a gate and sell them 3 booklets trying to explain what no archeologist is able to : this is as pervert as exchanging glitter to Indians for power. One of the definitions for vulgarity is to look down at the people.

If you miss spirit and generosity to, create that new system, you are surely useless and we will make sure to find it aurselves.

And the day one teenager wiR write the- name of his summer sweetheart on a Menhir surely it will be a piety, but- it will be a small incident within the huge time scale, and surely less appaling than miles of hidious green barbwire.

We belong to the people who, will make that project collapse and who carry a new insight into the world of our children on this planet. Therefore today with the use of the Internet we have put together a European meeting of importance on the subject of Megalithic sites in the area. That meeting will take place to celebrate the summer Solstice 1999 (21 June). The press from Europe will be present to relate the event. Will Carnac, worldly famous site, be the symbol of an era where the rule will not be to make money using all that is free and beautiful ? All this seems too easy and the state ofmediocrity of our Society puis his yotdh out of his mind with rage. Don't you sec it ?

The stone axe is unearthed : it is the strenght of spirit versus the strenght of money.
