saturday 16th november 02- planet shroom launch party - the depot - bristol "The demise of the Easton Community Centre has left a hole in the underground club scene in Bristol. The up-side of this is that the twoo refugee psy-trance nights from that venue have teamed up to make a force to be reckoned with. Planet Shroom came out of the starting blocks tonight at full pelt. The depot main room writhed in an acidic frenzyto the sounds of Morph and Sean Shift from within it's fluorescent walls. At 3am it was time for headliner Tamalasca to show us why he headlined the enormous Boom festival in Portugal in the summer. |
The poolroom
still produced it's famed sketchy conversations, unimaginable outfits and vaudevillian
shots. Downstairs was the realm of Beats Realitywho brought a harder techno sound
to the proceedings and room three proved that techno-headscan and will dance to
drum and bass too. At one stage, three outrageously attired
imps came to show us how it was done and twirled their green-ribboned forms at
a frenetic pace. This is the sort of night that The Depot is best at with
an inclusivity and camaraderie that other clubs can only dream at. Whatever is
happening on the commercial surface, the underground is going strong."
